How we helped Durrell to reconnect with their supporters

Durrell is a charity on a mission: to save species from extinction.
But their ageing website didn’t tell this inspiring story or connect with their audience, which stifled fundraising.
Our goal was to reconnect a global audience with their work via a website that:

Community connections
Jersey Zoo is at the heart of Durrell’s global mission, linking Jersey to a worldwide community of conservation experts and projects. But not everyone who visits the zoo understands the bigger picture.
The new website reconnects locals and visitors to Durrell’s conservation work, showing how the zoo is part of a larger story, and giving them the digital tools to support Durrell’s mission.
Making membership count
We fast-tracked a project to relaunch Durrell’s membership platform in just three months, to hit the peak summer season. Prompt project delivery and a conversion-focused design helped Durrell hit their fundraising target for 2021.
A dynamic map showcases Durrell’s projects around the world, by location & species, so members understand the impact their support makes to conservation projects around the world.
Reconnecting the global audience
We developed a clear strategy for audience engagement worldwide, founded on the principles of Relate, understand & trust:
- Beautiful images of species and locations depict a cause people can relate to.
- Stories about people, projects and positive outcomes build understanding.
- The sense of a mission shared builds trust that Durrell will use donations wisely.
Throughout the site we focused on building an email audience so supporters can easily stay connected with Durrell’s work.
Joined up journeys
Durrell has a dedicated audience who love their mission and work. To encourage the financial support that funds Durrell’s projects, we made it as easy as possible for them to contribute.
We combined our expertise in website UX, Durrell’s knowledge of fundraising, and the WWF’s research into the ‘charity mindset’. The result is a best-of-breed donation flow that responds to suit the different audiences that will use it.
From recurring donations to flexible memberships, animal adoptions to an online shop, Durrell’s supporters can now choose how they get involved.

We formed a strong partnership with the team at Durrell, sharing knowledge and collaborating to achieve project goals.
